Enjoy the splendor of the Rocky Mountains at this luxurious Colorado dude ranch located just north of Steamboat Springs. Here, you’ll find a diverse offering of activities, amazing food, and a friendly staff. Vista Verde is open year-round, offering incredibly scenic horseback riding, fishing and hiking in the summer and cross-country skiing, sleigh rides and tubing in the winter. The fall is spectacular! Quaking aspens set the hillsides on fire.
Unique Features: What makes a ranch vacation at Vista Verde unique is the flexibility and personalized attention that goes into each experience. The diverse selection of activities can make it hard to choose what to do each day, but the planning is made easy as they come around each evening and ask “What do you want to do tomorrow?” Your day, your way!
Accommodations: Named after the local mountains, the twelve cabins are rustic on the outside and anything but on the inside. Of course like the mountains, they are beautiful and spectacular without being the same, so there isn’t a best cabin. Furnished with a mix of antique, western art, lodge pole pine beds and handmade log furniture, the luxury cabins at Vista Verde are designed to be comfortable and deluxe, yet still cozy and quaint. They also offer three rooms in the main lodge.
As Suite As It Gets: When money is no object, go for the Lost Ranger, the Owner’s Private Cabin. Built originally as an owner’s cabin, the Lost Ranger is the big-daddy of them all, and perfect for really large families. It gives guests plenty of space with 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms and has an amazing view of the winter horse pasture from the hot tub. Equipped with a washer and dryer, this cabin is a favorite of guests who want to be able to throw a load of laundry in each evening!
Dining: The professionally trained chefs are adept at every offering from checkered tablecloth cookouts to white tablecloth fine dining, from cowboy coffee to crème brulee, and from what pleases the kids to what satisfies mom. The dining experience strikes the balance between ranchy and fancy. They mix it up so some meals are casual and served family style while others are more formal, multi-course dining events.
Activities: There is a very strong horse program packed with loads of opportunities to learn or just explore the mountains on quality horses who are well cared for and well trained. From fishing to mountain biking and back country skiing to yoga, each program is filled with talented guides, great equipment, and the ability to customize each experience. You can even go on a 2-hour or all-day snowmobiling excursion.
Spa & Fitness: Unfortunately, there is no dedicated Spa but they do do have a massage therapist on staff. The Fitness Center offers an elliptical and treadmill as well as a multi-gym for strength training. Yoga is also offered weekly. The Swimming Pool gives you a place to relax and cool off at the end of the day, or when you’re just not ready for another adventure. Please note the pool is closed during late-fall and all winter.
Location: The City of Steamboat Springs is a winter ski resort destination, including the Steamboat Ski Resort on Mount Werner in the Park Range just east of the town. Steamboat Springs has produced more athletes for the Winter Olympics than any other town in North America. Steamboat, known locally as “The ‘Boat” is located in the upper valley of the Yampa River. It is located approximately three hours north-west of Denver by car.
Closest Airport: First, You can fly into Denver International Airport (DIA) and then take a connecting flight up to Steamboat, also known as Yampa Valley Regional Airport, (HDN). They will pick you up and bring you to the ranch. This option is the best in the winter, when the roads from Denver can be snowy depending on the day.
Children’s Programs: Yes. The ranch’s engaging kids program provides a safe and adventurous experience for your kids while you explore the mountains. Some couples take advantage of the kids program so they can dedicate a portion of their vacation time to each other. Single parents find a chance to take a deep breath and recharge while their kids are off wearing themselves out in the fresh mountain air. The Coyote Corral is where you’ll find the spacious Kid’s Cabin and the low ropes course. The kids pretty much own this area.
Pet Friendly: No. As much as the ranch loves animals, they cannot allow pets to come stay at the ranch. They have several at the ranch already who don’t like to share their home, but do love to have your attention when you are there!
Weddings: While Vista Verde Ranch doesn’t host weddings, it is an excellent spot for a honeymoon or an elopement.
Meetings: Yes. Whether you are planning an executive retreat, an incentive trip for your top performers, or an annual meeting, Vista Verde will provide your attendees with a memorable experience they will remember for years to come. Not only will relationships grow stronger and memories provide a tie to each other, your attendees will get a chance to focus on the task at hand.
Extra Info: Every cabin has a sitting area with either a wood-burning stove or gas fireplace for ambiance and to cozy up to on those cool nights. And, each cabin has its own hot tub on the deck so you can sit under the stars and soak at the end of the day. There are no phones or TVs in the cabins. This is your chance to unplug and slow down!
