Verana was built on a hillside overlooking the ocean with a panoramic view of the mountains deep in the Valle del Sierra Oriental. Carved out of the lush Mexican jungle, it is remote and secluded, but still offers all the amenities for a comfortable and relaxing stay. Food at Verana combines authentic Mexican elements with fresh ideas from international chefs. Each night the kitchen prepares a three course dinner. Dishes include Mole Negro do Puebla, Seafood Pozole, Fish wrapped in Banana Leaf, Lemongrass Brulee, Mango Sorbet and many other specialties. Vegetarian dishes are also available
Unique Features: Getting to this amazing hillside location is quite unique: your luggage and/or you will be hauled up with mules. Once you arrive you will be in heaven. The Tecumata waterfall is just a 12 minute boat ride and a 45–60 minute hike. Or just stay at the resort, relax, spoil yourself at the spa, read, or jump in the pool!
Accommodations: Verana has 8 individual, private guest houses with ocean views. Each house was designed with its own character and feel to blend with the landscape and environment. The houses have their own gardens and terraces for privacy, but are still close enough so you don’t feel all alone in the jungle. There’s the Palapa, Bungalow, Casa Piedra, Pool House, Studio, Tea House, Jungle Suite, Casa Amor, Blue House, and the V House.
As Suite As It Gets: When money is no object, go for the Bungalow. Actually, they’re all equally as nice! The Blue House has two bedrooms, one king and one queen bed, and an option for third room with twin bed. The Jungle Suite has two bedrooms, one bath, one king and one queen bed, and a spacious living room. The Tea House has one king bed, Japanese style living room, bedroom, and private plunge pool.
Dining: Breakfast and dinner are served outside on the terrace with a spectacular view that overlooks the bay and open ocean. The full breakfast includes coffee, tea, juices, fruit, breads, freshly baked pastries, homemade jams, and your choice of eggs, French toast or pancakes. Lunch is served at the poolside restaurant and features light and healthy fare. The menu, which changes daily, includes an appetizer, choice of two entrees (vegetarian option), and dessert.
Activities: Verana was designed as a relaxing retreat and is perfect for yoga and meditation. Day trips are available for whale watching, snorkeling, fishing, exploring or visiting the nearby islands. You can go on day hikes or fishing at dawn as well. In Yelapa the nearby village, there are no roads and no cars. Everything is done by boat, mule or foot. Yelapa is a small village with a few good restaurants, grocery stores, a lively beach and dancing at the “Yacht Club” Saturday nights.
Spa & Fitness: In addition to the beautiful and peaceful setting of Verana they offer you a variety of treatments and massages to increase your level of relaxation. Every treatment begins with a soothing footbath while you sip a custom blend of tea while enjoying the gentle ocean breeze, the aromatic smell of the jungle and the tranquility of utter isolation. No stay at Verana is complete without at least one yoga class in the Yoga Palapa. They offer yoga every morning.
Location: A three hour flight takes you from L.A. to Puerto Vallarta. A quick drive gets you to Boca de Tomatlan, the last beach you can reach by car. From there it’s a 30 minute boat ride along the beautiful coast to Yelapa. They will be waiting for you at the beach with mules to take you and your luggage to the hillside location.
