History: The Smokies are one of the world’s oldest ranges, once soaring almost as high as the Himalayas. From the lawn, almost a mile high on the rim of the Cataloochee Divide, you can spot four of North Carolina’s six highest mountain ranges, all remnants of those ancient Everests. As the rocks eroded and history began to be written, the Cherokee hunted on the property and blazed the Cataloochee Divide Trail, which still runs behind the hideaway. Later settlers developed a distinct Appalachian culture and tradition that lives on to this day.

The ultimate in self care, Gail’s Room is a corner room with a private 2nd floor balcony, king size bed, steam shower, sauna, and a warm and cozy fireplace. Room amenities include a wet bar, coffee machine and a small refrigerator stocked with soft drinks, trail mix and hiking bars. Take a moment to relax in a copper balcony soaking tub or slip into the outdoor shower while enjoying sweeping Smoky Mountain views.

Dining: Menus change daily, as harvest from The Swag’s ever-expanding on-site garden and produce deliveries from local farms guide the chefs’ creativity. Start your day off the delicious homemade breakfast, and enjoy lunch on the go or a gourmet Chef’s Picnic Atop Gooseberry Knob on Wednesday and Saturdays.Join everyone during the evening for a social hour of hors d’oeuvres on the front porch before the dinner bell rings and invites you to settle in for a four-course meal in the Swag House.

Spa & Fitness: Relax and be rejuvenated with a treatment in The Swag’s spa, The Still. With three treatment rooms, guests can indulge in custom massages, facials, wraps and more. The Swag’s newest property addition, The Lookout, is a luxurious outdoor hot tub and fitness room with sweeping views of the mountains.

Location: Waynesville is located about 30 miles (50 km) southwest of Asheville between the Great Smoky and Blue Ridge mountains. As of the 2010 census, Waynesville had a population of 9,869. The town is located just outside the Pisgah National Forest and near the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Swag shares a mile-long border with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Closest Airport: The Swag is located 45 miles from the Asheville Regional Airport. They are happy to arrange transportation to/from the airport. They are also less than a 3-hour drive from the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport, the McGhee Tyson Airport (Knoxville, TN), and the Charlotte Douglas International Airport (Charlotte, NC).

Children’s Programs: No, they do not have any supervised kids programs.

Pet Friendly: No, pets are not allowed.

Meetings: No. They don’t have the facilities to handle large business meetings or conferences.

Extra Info: Chef’s Picnic Atop Gooseberry Knob. The Gooseberry Knob picnics are a special time at The Swag. Enjoy gourmet choices on Wednesdays and Saturdays like cast-iron fried chicken, Black Angus beef burgers, or grilled yellowfin tuna. The vegetable dishes are often made from produce picked right in The Swag’s garden. After lunch, treat yourself to delicious seasonal desserts.
