The Post Hotel & Spa is both the ideal accommodation for relaxation and the perfect starting point for most Canadian Rockies tours. Perched at 1500 metres amidst the natural wonders of Banff National Park you will find this cherished Alpine chalet. Canada’s largest ski area is just minutes away and the abundance of snow is just one reason a growing number of European skiers visit the area each winter. An award winning wine list, and fresh market cuisine are featured in the renowned dining room.
Unique Features: Known originally as the Lake Louise Ski Lodge, the Post first opened in 1942. Jim Boyce, a noted guide and packer from Banff, was the builder. He sourced the logs for the Lodge in Revelstoke and at the headwaters of the Bow River. With a crew of just 10 men, using mostly hand tools, building was completed in a remarkably short time. The war, amongst other reasons, forced a closure soon thereafter and the doors would not open again until 1948.
Accommodations: Guests can choose from the gorgeous lodge rooms and suites, cozy log cabins, spacious family homes or the extra large Watson House. Pricing is dependent on which side of the hotel you choose. There is the Discounted Side, which is West facing, has mountain views, and overlooks the hotel guest parking, some noise from CPR train. Or, there is the Preferred Side, which is East facing, overlooking trees, cabins and the Hotel’s back lawns.
As Suite As It Gets: When money is no object, go for the Watson House which is a private 3000 square foot mountain lodge perched on the banks of the Pipestone River in Lake Louise; Banff National Park and the spectacular Canadian Rockies. All of the privacy, luxury and ambiance of your own mountain home with the added bonus of the Post Hotel & Spa services and amenities at your doorstep. There is no comparable lodge or home anywhere in Banff National Park.
Dining: Enjoy the much loved Fondue Stübli, Stübli translates to small, cozy room, just like it is. A charming 24 seat specialty restaurant, located next to the main Dining Room and open each evening at 5:30 pm. The Stübli features traditional Swiss style fondues including: cheese fondue, fondue “bourguignonne,” fondue “chinoise” and the classic Swiss chocolate fondue. The Sir Norman Lounge offers a relaxed atmosphere by fireside. Aprés ski, aprés hike, before or after dinner. A light menu is available, easy listening piano entertainment on weekend evenings.
Activities: The summer is full of super fun stuff to do! The hotel has hybrid Devinci bikes which are perfect for the trails and roads around the Lake Louise village and are available, at no charge, for Post Hotel guests. There’s also nearby hiking, golfing, fishing, horseback riding, canoeing, and exciting whitewater rafing. Winter offers up snowmobile tours, sleigh rides, dog sledding, snowshoe tours, ice skating, cross country skiing, and downhill skiing. The Post Hotel has a skating rink, located just outside the front lobby.
Spa & Fitness: Let go and indulge at Temple Mountain Spa. Services range from therapeutic to luxurious with a wide selection of massage therapies, body and facial therapies and beauty services. The hotel’s fully appointed fitness center offers a selection of Life Fitness cardio machines, Kaiser Strength training equipment and a variety of free weights.
Location: The hotel is located in the village of Lake Louise, in the heart of Banff National Park; west of the gateway city of Calgary, Alberta. Lake Louise is known for its turquoise, glacier-fed lake ringed by high peaks and overlooked by a stately chateau. Hiking trails wind up to the Lake Agnes Tea House for bird’s-eye views. There’s a canoe dock in summer, and a skating rink on the frozen lake in winter. The Lake Louise Ski Resort features a wildlife interpretive center at the top of a gondola.
Closest Airport: The closest airport to Lake Louise is Calgary International Airport (YYC), which is located approximately 125 miles (200 km) to the East. The Lake Louise Ski Resort is just five minutes from the hotel as is the renowned attraction of Lake Louise itself.
