The historic Mission Ranch sits on 22 acres with spectacular views of Point Lobos, Carmel River Beach and the Pacific Ocean. This 1800s ranch was preserved and restored by former Carmel Mayor, Clint Eastwood. A longtime Carmel resident, Clint Eastwood rescued this landmark resort from condo developers, and renovated the entire property to provide a unique resort experience. The Inn now consists of 31 hotel rooms located within ten buildings on the property.
Unique Features: The property is the home of the Mission Ranch Tennis and Fitness Club which guests are welcome to enjoy during their stay. On Sundays, the restaurant offers a buffet brunch with live jazz. It is often described by guests as amazing and has been voted the Best Brunch by local newspaper polls.
Accommodations: Mission Ranch has a variety of unique lodging options ranging from the rustic Bunkhouse, the 1850s Farmhouse or the Meadowview rooms with whirlpool tubs, fireplaces and private patio decks or balconies. There are rooms perfect for romantic getaways and rooms suited for family vacations. Other accommodations include the Honeymoon Cottage, Main Barn rooms, and the Hayloft. The buildings are nestled among historic cypress and eucalyptus trees, as well as newly planted gardens.
As Suite As It Gets: When money is no object, go for the Honeymoon Cottage which is a favorite with many repeat guests. This cottage offers a comfortable and inviting living room with a gas fireplace, a dinette area, private patio and yard. The cozy bedroom has a king bed and a private bathroom that offers a whirlpool tub.
Dining: The Restaurant at Mission Ranch is one of the most spectacular spots to dine on the Monterey Peninsula. The view is gorgeous: sheep grazing in the meadow, Santa Lucia Mountains in the near distance and Point Lobos with the Pacific Ocean’s crashing waves. The Restaurant at Mission Ranch offers a varied and pleasing menu, moderately priced, featuring Classic American Cuisine. Dinner can be enjoyed inside or out on the heated patio. Live piano music is an institution at The Restaurant at Mission Ranch.
Activities: The Tennis & Fitness Club is available to hotel guests. They have 6 hard surfaced tennis courts, and a fitness club with state of the art equipment. Carmel is known for the museums and library of the historic Carmel Mission, and the fairytale cottages and galleries of its village-like center. The Scenic Bluff Path runs from surf spot Carmel Beach to bird-rich Carmel River State Beach, with a scuba entry point. South lie the sea animals and whaling museum of Point Lobos State Natural Reserve.

In 1906, the San Francisco Cal reported that 60 percent of Carmel’s houses were built by citizens who were “devoting their lives to work connected to the aesthetic arts.”

Extra Info: The Ranch originally consisted of 160 acres and was owned by Juan Romero, a native American who is believed to have lived in the village next to the Carmel Mission. In 1852 he deeded the property to William Curtis, a Monterey storekeeper, for $300. In the 1850s, the property became one of the first of the early California dairies. The creamery, which supplied the county with cheese and butter, now houses the restaurant. The barns were used for hay and milking.
