Nestled among the rolling hills and rugged mountains of the Ranch Valley Creek near Winter Park, Colorado, lies Devil’s Thumb Ranch. Guests are invited to participate in real, authentic ranch adventures from horseback riding, fly fishing, and cross-country skiing, to mountain biking, zip lining, and more on over 6,500 acres of Rocky Mountain wilderness. Of course, such a luxurious escape would be incomplete without refined modern comforts like a renowned spa, acclaimed restaurants, elegant lodge accommodations, and private rustic cabins.
Unique Features: Serving up modern ranch fare in a no-frill setting, Heck’s Tavern centers around an impressive, floor-to-ceiling fireplace. The giant posts and beams are hewn from standing dead Douglas Fir from Vancouver Island, over 800 years old. Fuel your day of activities at the Ranch with lunchtime favorites like the Famous Wagyu Burger or vegan sweet potato bowl. Come nightfall, the dinner delights include Seared Local Colorado Char, Wagyu Chili, and much more. Don’t forget the s’mores at the outdoor fire-pit (complimentary for lodging guests every night).
Accommodations: Views of the Continental Divide greet you each morning in the Main Lodge rooms. These rooms features a single king bed, a custom designed bathroom and comfortable seating to enjoy a romantic gas fireplace. The Main Lodge offers perks beyond the four walls of your room. It’s home to Heck’s Tavern, Hallowed Grounds Coffee Shop, the game room complete with billiards and two-lane bowling alley, and a 37-seat theater. The one-bedroom Cabins: Byer, Ouray, Red Quill, Settlers, Willow, and Wrangler, are all 675 square feet and contain a butler kitchen. Each has one Queen-size bed. Most of them are dog-friendly.
As Suite As It Gets: When money is no object, go for the Grand Guest House. Elevate your mountain vacation with additional privacy, space, and tranquility when you reserve the three-story, 10,000-square-foot Grand Guest House less than a mile from the resort. Perched on the hilltop with panoramic Continental Divide views, the expansive deck is the ideal setting to enjoy the rising sun over the mountains and to reminisce on a day’s worth of outdoor adventures.
Dining: Located in the original homestead that was built on the Ranch in the 1930s, Ranch House Restaurant sits rather unpretentiously on the edge of a sweeping meadow with the Continental Divide 4,000 feet above and worn pine floors below. They like to think that when those early pioneers picked the spot for their home, it was chosen for its magnificent views, elk and moose wander by, horses enjoy their meals in the meadow and a blanket of stars light the night in a way you can only see in a place like this.
Activities: Hop on the back of a horse and gallop through summer meadows or a winter wonderland, or make a splash in the heated outdoor pool and hot tub. Find your center with daily yoga or find a bullseye with an air rifle no matter what time of year you visit the Ranch. From cross-country skiing and snowshoeing on blankets of snow to biking through wildflowers, catching rainbow trout, and taking aim with a bow and arrow, adventure seekers big and small will find the thrill they seek in our 6,500 acres of Rocky Mountain wilderness.
Spa & Fitness: The beautiful, 18,000 square foot spa is located in a quiet corner of the meadow overlooking the Ranch with jaw-dropping views of the Continental Divide. Crackling hearths, plush sofas, homemade tea and fluffy robes set the stage for ultra-pampering hot stone massages, couples’ relaxation treatments, skin treatments and more to reset body, mind and soul.
