Location: Tulum is a town on the Caribbean coastline of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. It’s known for its beaches and well-preserved ruins of an ancient Mayan port city. The main building is a large stone structure called El Castillo (castle), perched on a rocky cliff above the white sand beach and turquoise sea. Near the ruins is the Parque Nacional Tulum, a coastal area with mangroves and cenotes (natural limestone sinkholes).
Closest Airport: Cancun is the closest airport. The distance from Cancun to Tulum is about 131 kilometers (81 miles). The journey by road takes between 1.5-2 hours depending on traffic and climatic conditions. The fastest and easiest way to reach Tulum from the Cancun airport is with a direct transfer, which the hotel can have arranged for you. Local taxis are often less expensive for the return trip.
