The Hideout Lodge & Guest Ranch is an all-inclusive, upscale riding, horsemanship and working cattle guest ranch. The Hideout is located in beautiful Shell, Wyoming which is east of Cody and Yellowstone National Park. The ranch is limited to approximately 25 riders weekly. With a backyard of 650,000 acres in an area with tremendous diversity of scenery and altitudes ranging from 4,200 to 13,100 feet, you will seldom see the same trail twice.
Unique Features: A very popular activity is the Ride & Fish Program where you ride on horseback for approximately 45 minutes to a pristine mountain stream to go fishing. You can fish for Brook trout in the mountains. Trapshooting and Archery are popular half-day, non-riding activities. There is an on-premises trap shooting facility with Winchester remote control thrower, including 20 and 12 gauge Beretta shotguns. At the Archery range you can try your luck shooting traditional and compound bows.
Accommodations: Western-style log cabins, built in 1992, are decorated with excellent furnishings in warm colors and are kept sparkling clean and well-maintained. Emerald green lawns surround these five duplex cabins, which are connected to the main lodge, other cabins, and hot-tub by well-lit paved pathways. All cabins complete with a modern bathroom with shower, your choice of King sized bed and sofa, or two queen size or double beds, wireless internet, and flat screen cable TV.
As Suite As It Gets: When money is no object, go for the Hideout Home. For those guests who are seeking even more luxury than the standard accommodations, they offer The Hideout Home. Located across from The Hideout’s main property and within 10 minutes walking distance, The Hideout Home was built with no expenses spared in terms of the quality of architecture, interior design, amenities and a million-dollar view. It is a Western-style log home decorated with the highest standards of aesthetics and comfort in mind.
Dining: The hearty Western fare and gourmet dinners are one of the main reasons guests return year after year. The view from the dining room, where meals are served, is simply spectacular. Each item is prepared with only the best and freshest ingredients. Most of the vegetables are local, organically grown and fresh from the garden. The kitchen is less about quantity but rather about quality and healthy food.
Activities: The Hideout is focused on horseback riding, horsemanship and working cattle. The ranch’s string of 130 horses consists of Quarter Horses, Paints and a growing number of Mustangs. They take pride in offering a very personal, fun and safe riding experience. They do offer other activities to provide a break from the saddle including fly-fishing, trapshooting, archery, scenic 4×4 driving tours, and a trip to the Cody Nite Rodeo.
Spa & Fitness: There is no spa or fitness center at the ranch, but The Hideout is thrilled to offer a beautiful heated lap pool with views to die for. What is more rewarding and relaxing after a day in the saddle than dipping in a pool with crystal clear, refreshing water? The pool is managed by a state-of-the-art computer and cleaning system using UV light, which reduces the use of harsh chemicals.
Location: Shell is in Big Horn County, Wyoming. The population is around 100 people. The community is named for the abundance of fossil shells located in the area. Nearby exposed formations such as the Cloverly Formation and the Morrison Formation have yielded numerous fossils of dinosaurs and other animals. Located to the west of the town is the Red Gulch Dinosaur Tracksite, a rare collection of dinosaur tracks from the Jurassic period.
Closest Airport: Cody, WY (COD) is 75 miles from the Ranch (1-hour and 15 minute drive). They recommend renting a car at the airport so you can take in other area attractions.
Children’s Programs: No. Although they welcome your children, they do not have any supervised children’s programs. Parents need to ride and participate together with their children and grandkids.
Pet Friendly: No, unfortunately pets are not allowed.
Weddings: No. They do not normally host weddings at the ranch but if your party is big enough you can Rent The Ranch for your group to enjoy. During the peak season from the first week of June through the middle of October, they do require a minimum of 25 guests to Rent The Ranch. During the shoulder seasons in the spring and late fall they require fewer guests.
Meetings: No, unfortunately, they don’t have the facilities to handle large business meetings or conferences. You can rent out the entire ranch though.
Extra Info: Cody, Wyoming, is the Rodeo Capital of the World, home of the Buffalo Bill Cody Stampede Rodeo and Cody Nite Rodeo! From June 1st through August 31st, 90 rodeos are held during the summer, one per day. Many guests take a break from the riding Wednesday afternoon to drive to Cody. Cody is one of the nicest Western towns in Wyoming and guests like to visit and shop the many stores on Main Street. Cody is also home to The Buffalo Bill Museum of The West.
