Purcell Mountain Lodge is a backcountry Lodge suited for all ages and abilities. Adventure awaits you right from our doorstep. Enjoy a variety of outdoor pursuits in summer, fall and winter. Operating since 1990, the Lodge is located at 2200 meters (7200’) amidst the alpine slopes of Bald Mountain. This luxury lodge located in the northern Purcell Mountains near Glacier National Park. A dedicated team of staff take great pride in offering guests a truly unique and unforgettable mountain getaway.
Unique Features: The lodge is totally off the grid, meaning that they produce their own electricity. In addition, it is only accessible by helicopter. Relax and unwind to all the comforts of home in the three story, timber framed lodge. Luxury in the backcountry is complete with an open dining area, cozy living room with fireplace, quiet library, board games and puzzles. There’s a traditional wood-fired cedar sauna for those who wish to relax after a day in the mountains.
Accommodations: Shared rooms have one queen bed and three single bunk beds. Ideal for a group of friends, individuals who don’t mind sharing with other guests of the same gender. Ten private guest rooms are located on the upper floor and come with mountain views guaranteed to inspire and refresh. Each room has its own sink and vanity. Three private showers and three private bathrooms are across the hallway.
As Suite As It Gets: When money is no object, go for the Wilderness Backcountry Chalet which is a unique property steps away from the main lodge offers the ultimate home base for door step exploration and adventure. The chalet offers a lodge life setting that feels like home. Ideal for families or friends travelling together with two bedrooms, one bathroom with a vanity and shower. Outside is a private deck perfect for relaxing among the sights and sounds of the backcountry.
Dining: Gourmet mountain cuisine is prepared by the Chef who can accommodate any special dietary needs and allergies with advance notice. Apres hike and ski appetizers are served each day and enjoyed with the specially selected craft beers or BC wine from the bar. A cold breakfast offers granola, fresh fruit and yogurt. A hot breakfast is served buffet self serve style. For lunch, there are gourmet pre packed lunches with fresh baked goods and treats in a take-home souvenir canvas Purcell Mountain Lodge lunch sack. Dinner is the chef’s choice, an incredible three-course plated dinner.
Activities: Summer hiking season runs from June to September. In the winter, guests enjoy ski touring, splitboarding and snowshoeing from December to April. A professional guiding team will take you out each day to explore the massive terrain. In summer and fall, adventure to the unknown on the well maintained hiking trails. Explore North America’s largest alpine meadows and take in breathtaking scenery. In the winter, the fresh powder is nonstop and allows for soft pillow landings in a variety of terrain suitable for all ski ability levels.
Spa & Fitness: Sorry, there is no on-site spa, although they may be able to arrange a variety of in-room treatments. A traditional wood burning sauna is steps away from the main Lodge to help soothe tired muscles and joints.
Location: Accessible only by helicopter, Purcell Mountain Lodge is perched at 2200 meters (7200’) atop the high alpine slopes of Bald Mountain, in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. The Purcell Mountains are a subrange of the Columbia Mountains, which includes the Selkirk, Monashee, and Cariboo Mountains. They are located on the west side of the Rocky Mountain Trench in the area of the Columbia Valley, and on the east side of the valley of Kootenay Lake and the Duncan River.
Closest Airport: The lodge is accessible by fifteen a minute scenic helicopter ride from Golden, British Columbia. The nearest major airport to Golden is Cranbrook/Canadian Rockies International Airport (YXC / CYXC). Another major airport is Calgary International Airport (YYC / CYYC), which has international and domestic flights from Calgary, Canada and is 274 km from Golden, Canada.
Children’s Programs: No. They have a minimum age of 13 years old for children staying in the main Lodge. Families with young children are recommended to stay in the chalet for more privacy. Special pricing for family bookings with a option for a private guide for your group for an additional cost.
Pet Friendly: No, unfortunately pets are not allowed.
Weddings: Yes. For private weddings Purcell Mountain Lodge offers a unique setting for up to thirty guests. Elopements and destination weddings are hosted at Purcell Mountain Lodge all year long. Couples can choose to book during the regular summer season using the high season exclusive lodge rental rates. The shoulder season offers lower exclusive lodge rental rates.
Meetings: Yes. Whether your goal is to build a stronger team, or celebrate an upcoming event, Purcell Lodge is the ideal place to hold your next gathering. The outdoor classroom and varied terrain is perfect for small break-out sessions and private time. The Lodge has 10 bedrooms with a maximum capacity of 28 guests.
