At Orenda you’ll enjoy a safe and comfortable back country adventure in the New York’s beautiful Adirondack State Park. They offer an authentic Adirondack luxury camping experience in their custom made canvas cabins. The luxury glamping experience will give you all the comforts of back country living within the southern region of the Adirondack mountains. The private canvas cabins each are uniquely located in their own private natural setting throughout the rolling terrain of Orenda.
Unique Features: Orenda is the Iroquois name for a certain spiritual energy inherent in people and their environment. It is an “extraordinary invisible power believed by the Iroquois Native Americans to pervade in varying degrees in all animate and inanimate natural objects as a transmissible spiritual energy capable of being exerted according to the will of its possessor.”
Accommodations: Being in the backcountry of New York’s Adirondack mountains doesn’t mean sacrificing the luxury of modern conveniences. At Orenda it means embracing the great outdoors. Enjoy the sensation of bathing underneath the forest canopy as well as the sounds and smells of nature. The mountain spring water from the artesian well will help you to refresh and unwind. The heated outdoor shower features a traditional style design that includes a water tower and local cedar built enclosure.
As Suite As It Gets: When money is no object, go for the Canvas Cabin Birch which reflects one of the many natural features of Orenda, it is surrounded by White Birch trees. It also sits on one of the many knolls created by the mountain ridge lines running through Orenda complete with a wonderful view of the retreat from the porch. As dusk descends, the retreat glows below this setting, creating a magical feel. The Birch is the furthest away from the common areas and other canvas cabins providing you with complete privacy.
Dining: Mealtime at Orenda has always been a time to reflect and relax with friends and family and share the day’s adventures. They have made it a tradition to create and provide tastefully prepared, healthy cuisine to the great outdoors. Dining at Orenda is all inclusive and offered to guests daily. All meals are cooked over an open wood flame using traditional cast iron skillets, griddles and dutch ovens, all the while introducing the freshest ingredients from local Farmers and the on-site heirloom garden, making dining at Orenda an unique experience.
Activities: Orenda works with each guest to create an individual activity experience based on your preferences. These include hiking and paddling, to white water rafting, mountain biking, and much more! The Adirondack Park boasts an abundance of amazing hiking excursions. Orenda’s location offers easy access to many unique natural featues, where you will find both difficult mountain terrain to rolling, lush valleys with lakes and ponds.
Spa & Fitness: There is no spa or fitness center, but, don’t worry about it, you’ll be too busy and too hungry from hiking. All meals are included during your stay. Lunch is not provided on arrival or departures days. They provide a hearty Adirondack breakfast spread, to a convenient lunch to go, providing you a choice of delicious sandwhiches with fresh fruit, variety of snacks as well as a stocked soft drink and tea bar. The evening begins with tastefully prepared back country cuisine, ending with a campfire classic, Smores!
Location: Johnsburg is a town in the northwest corner of Warren County, New York. It is part of the Glens Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town population was 2,450 at the 2000 census. The town is named after John Thurman, an early settler and founder. The town was first settled around 1788. Today, traveling around doesn’t require a horse and buggy, but before modern roads and vehicles, residents needed easier ways to get essential supplies and services.
Closest Airport: The nearest major airport is Albany International Airport (ALB / KALB). This airport has domestic flights from Albany, New York and is 75 miles from the center of Johnsburg, NY. Another major airport is Rutland Southern Vermont Regional Airport (RUT / KRUT), which has domestic flights from Rutland, Vermont and is 78 miles from Johnsburg, NY.
Children’s Programs: No. Orenda is designed for a mature and independent clientele. They have a strict minimum age requirement of 12 and older.
Pet Friendly: No. Orenda does not permit any type of pets on the retreat for general bookings.

Located among a lush mountainside valley, surrounded by beautiful trees, nestled along a pristine mountain brook, Orenda is an ideal location for creating lasting memories. Orenda offers a variety of customized on-site event options including wedding ceremonies and receptions, vow renewals and family reunions.
Meetings: No, unfortunately, they don’t have the facilities to handle large business meetings or conferences.
Extra Info: The Bath House is centrally located on the retreat for your convenience. There are two unisex bathrooms with heated toilet seats and a central wash basin supplied from our artesian well. Each Canvas Cabin has their own location in the bath house for guests to keep their toiletries. All natural Hand soap and moisturizing cream from Kiss My Face is provided. The Bath House is cleaned daily and stocked with all supplies for your use.
