Deer Valley Ranch wants to become your base camp for amazing family adventures and memories that last a lifetime. While most outfitters are focused on selfies, Deer Valley Ranch is focused on your family relationships. Teach your children to ride horses, watch them rock climb with an experienced staff, participate in memory-making excursions with summit attempts on 14,000 foot peaks and know that the time and money you spend this summer will represent one of the greatest investments you can make.
Unique Features: Of the two mountains that surround the ranch, Mount Antero is the most visible, with nearly every cabin on the property offering a spectacular and breathtaking view of the local 14er. Providing scenery that inspires paintings, Antero makes up the southern side of the valley, rising another six thousand feet above the ranch.
Accommodations: Choose from the conveniently located lodge rooms or cozy cabins. When you stay in the lodge rooms you are right in the heart of the “old west” style of lodging. Downstairs from your room with a private bath is the lodge lounge and fireplace, the front deck, and the ranch dining rooms. The cabins are spacious two, three or four bedroom vacation cottages (small homes, actually). Each mountain vacation cabin has a fully-equipped kitchen, living room/dining area, fireplace and deck with a view.
As Suite As It Gets: When money is no object, go for the Alpine or the Owl’s Nest Cabins, which are the best options. Or, with a newly renovated kitchen, refurnished bedrooms and living room, and laundry, Hortense is popular among guests who are ready to ride. Located directly across from the corral, Hortense is perfect for families with children who want to rise and shine with the horses. With a wonderful deck off the side of the cabin, you can easily watch the little ones as they come nose to nose with the best animals around.
Dining: Enjoy a “wester menu with lots of beef, barbeque, enchiladas, steak and trout. Also lighter options like chicken, fruit and salads, and plenty of variety. The chef’s specialties inlcude baked breads, desserts, and the best sopapillas anywhere. The food is healthy, and there is, of course, plenty of it. Ranch cookout and special meals include a Monday and Thursday Wrangler’s Breakfast, Wednesday hamburger Cookout, Mexican Buffet, Trout night, Barbeque Buffet, and more.
Activities: What better way to experience all that Colorado has to offer than by exploring the great outdoors? See the famous “14er” mountains (over 14,000 feet high!) by horseback, mountain bike, ATV/Jeep, or on foot. Catch a fish you’ll tell your grandkids about someday, see the Milky Way at night, climb a new route or rappel off a cliff. The professional outdoor guides and wranglers are there to serve YOU!
Spa & Fitness: There is no spa or fitness center but the ranch can arrange for a massage. A vacation isn’t a true escape without a little “me” time. Schedule a deep tissue or Swedish massage for after that horseback ride or hike. Centrally located on the ranch are two swimming pools and two outdoor hot tubs, all fed with refreshing hot springs water. Deck chairs invite book-reading and napping.
Location: Deer Valley Ranch is located in South Central Colorado. St. Elmo, is a ten mile drive west of Deer Valley and is one of Colorado’s best known “Ghost Towns.” Located at the top of the ranch and setting the wonderful backdrop for Deer Valley are the one-of-a-kind Chalk Cliffs. These cliffs are directly embedded into the side of Mount Princeton and are a wonderful hiking destination for guests of all ages. Legend has it that there are gold bars and other treasures located in the cervices.
Closest Airport: Colorado Springs is 115 miles (2 1/4 hours), Denver is 155 miles (3 hours).
Children’s Programs: No. Although they welcome your children, they do not have any supervised children’s programs.
Pet Friendly: No, unfortunately pets are not allowed. Trained service dogs are the exception.
Weddings: Deer Valley Ranch is no stranger to hosting incredible wedding celebrations. The hospitality staff specialize in helping you plan your perfect day. Whether you’re looking for an intimate small ceremony or an extravagant party, Deer Valley Ranch is the most convenient location to host your wedding in central Colorado.
Meetings: Set against the majestic background of the Chalk Cliffs, retreats at Deer Valley Ranch are awe-inspiring for your entire team. They offer team-building activities that can be tailored to your interests and the season’s offerings.
Extra Info: The Lickety Split Coffee and Ice Cream Shop, located above the pool, is the perfect spot to sip a latte, chat with a new friend, or enjoy a spectacular view of the Chalk Cliffs. Additional adventures are available ranging from guided fly-fishing, ATVs, Jeeps, other rafting options, local guided hikes, mountain biking, adventure courses, and more. The Concierge will help you coordinate activities.
