The meals are chef-prepared and delicious. Enjoy cocktails in the lounge and relax on the porch and watch the sunset in the evenings.
Unique Features: Brought from the valley’s second oldest dude ranch, the Bar BC, each of the log cabins has been remodeled to meet today’s standards of western luxury. Named after the area’s flora and fauna, each cabin has its own charm and simplicity. The more spacious lodges feature the same amenities as the cabins and also have living rooms with private fireplaces, wood burning stoves and kitchenettes.
Accommodations: There are four log cabins, five log lodges, and one Homestead House. All rooms are carpeted, have electric heat, private bathrooms and outdoor decks. The occasional moose, elk or deer may obstruct your picture-perfect views. The cabins and Homestead House are clustered near the heart of the ranch and help frame its expansive common area while the lodges are more secluded and tucked into the trees a short distance away.
As Suite As It Gets: When money is no object, go for the Homestead House. Ideal for those traveling in a large group or family, the Homestead House is perfect for keeping everyone together. It features a wood burning stove, fireplace, kitchenette, and living area. Among the three rooms, this entire house sleeps 6 and with the addition of the living room sofa bed, it can accommodate eight. This house can be rented in whole or in part.
Dining: One evening they’ll be fixin’ a casual gourmet meal in the main lodge dining room with bananas foster for dessert. Another evening they’ll dine outdoors in the open yard enjoying a western BBQ complete with a cowboy singer around the firepit. Breakfast is hot and made to order. For those short on time, there’s always a buffet with assorted cereals, homemade pastries and fresh fruits. A favorite lunch is the hamburger BBQ picnic on a nearby butte reachable via horseback.
Activities: The Gros Ventre River Ranch offers a diverse Jackson Hole horseback riding program. Choose from scenic walking rides to challenging excursions into the surrounding hills on your Wyoming guest ranch vacation. Two miles of the Gros Ventre River flows directly through the Ranch property, giving you exclusive access to a classic fishery. Novices and veterans alike will also appreciate the less demanding cutthroat that inhabit the two on-property casting ponds, ideal for first-time catches or high-level practice.
Spa & Fitness: There is no spa or fitness center at the ranch, but with all the activities you won’t need them. Not far from the Ranch, the Snake River meanders through Grand Teton National Park. Yellowstone National Park’s 5,000 square miles are dotted with rivers, lakes and streams of all personalities. If you can focus on the fishing instead of the views, you’ll find it to be one of the best floating rivers in North America. Across the Idaho border is the famed Henry’s Fork, where the fish really are as big and beautiful as you’ve heard.
Location: Early settlers used the term “hole” to describe any deep valley between two mountain ranges. Jackson Hole remains that but perhaps they should change the spelling to suit modern times: Jackson Whole. Whatever your interests, there is enough to do in the valley to last several lifetimes. Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Park are two obvious attractions. Just as pleasurable is the chance to grab a drink at one of the most scenic bars in the country; Dornan’s in Moose or The Cowboy Bar in Jackson.
Closest Airport: The closest major airport to Moose, Wyoming is Jackson Hole Airport (JAC / KJAC).
Children’s Programs: No. Although they welcome your children, they do not have any supervised children’s programs. A guest ranch is the perfect place for youngsters. Your kids can fish with you at the ponds, get out the row boat or play on the dock, tube down the river, learn how to rope, play in the main yard on the play set, start up a game of tetherball or soccer, ride a mountain bike around the ranch, climb the small-scaled boulders on the ranch and play pool or ping pong in the recreation room.
Pet Friendly: No, unfortunately pets are not allowed.
Weddings: No, they don’t normally host weddings, although they may by special request.
Meetings: No, unfortunately, they don’t have the facilities to handle large business meetings or conferences.
Extra Info: Previously run as a hunting camp in the early 1950s, the property was purchased in 1958 by Roy and Becky Chambers. They restored the camp and opened the Flying V Guest Ranch in 1966. After 20 years in operation, Roy and Becky sold to the late Karl Weber and his wife Tina, who continued with the tradition of guest ranching, opening the Gros Ventre River Ranch in 1987. The Gros Ventre River Ranch continues to remain in the family.
