Dry Island on Upper Saranac Lake is a 12 acre private Adirondack luxury vacation home with accommodations and lodging available to sleep up to ten people. It is available for guest rental on a weekly and monthly basis. The Great Camps of the Adirondacks built in the late 1800s and early 1900s were rustic but elegant homes owned by America’s most wealthy individuals. No expense was too great! Many of these people lived quietly amongst the forest while others entertained lavishly. Now you can experience it for yourself.
Unique Features: Dry Island is a private family compound who’s owner allows a very limited number of guests each year. Upon arrival at the mainland dock for your 10 minute journey to Dry Island, you will be greeted with champagne and hors d’oeuvres. Both the main house and log cabin are fully air conditioned though it is cool enough to sleep with the doors and windows wide open. The facilities are at 1,700 feet above sea level where a gentle breeze flows most of the time. You can listen to the soft sounds of the Loons as you drift off to sleep at night.
Accommodations: The Main House has three bedrooms: one with a California King bed and two with queen-sized beds. Firewood is cut and stacked ready for you at anytime. The caretaker will rebuild and prepare a new log fire for you each day if you desire. The nearby cabin has a wood burning fireplace in the living room, and a separate one in the Master Bedroom. The cool nights are even more enjoyable as you fall asleep listening to the gentle crackle of the aged wood logs.
As Suite As It Gets: When money is no object, go for the Log Cabin which sleeps six with a California King featherbed in the master bedroom, and a queen plus two twin beds in the loft. The island is unpretentious but quite upscale with all the comforts of your own home. The bathrooms are generous in size and have the amenities you would expect in a luxury resort. Oversized Turkish towels, hair dryers, special soaps and lotions are also on hand.
Dining: The meals are amazing! A professional chef is on staff to cook for you. The island is 100% yours for the entire time you are there. Though almost invisible, the small staff of six will gladly leave the island if you wish for total solitude. The staff is highly discrete and respectful.
Activities: Canoes, kayaks, ski boats, 1920s runabouts, small and large sailboats, and silent electric cruising boats are all available for your pleasure at Dry Island. 14 Boats in all and fuel is included. Fantastic fishing is always an option and picnic lunches can be furnished upon requests. There are many activities available including water skiing, tubing, hiking, swimming, horseshoes and more!
Spa & Fitness: There is no on-site spa or fitness center, but with all of the amazing outdoor activities and fresh air though, you won’t need them.
Location: Dry Island is located 2000 feet off the North Shore of Upper Saranac Lake, often described as the “crown jewel” of the Adirondack Lakes. The caretaker will gladly pick you up at the local airport should you fly commercial or private aircraft. It is only a 15 minute drive from the airport to the launch site. Cape Air is the only major carrier at the Adirondack Regional Airport located in Lake Clear. The smaller Lake Placid Airport is about 30 minutes drive to the east.
Closest Airport: The nearest major airport is Adirondack Regional Airport (SLK / KSLK). This airport has domestic flights and is 7 miles from the center of Saranac Lake, NY.
Children’s Programs: No. Although they welcome your children, they do not have any supervised children’s programs.
Pet Friendly: No. Pets are not allowed at this property.
Weddings: Yes. This is an excellent place for a stunning wedding.
Meetings: Yes. You can easily host a small business meeting on the island.
Extra Info: Cuddle with that special someone and enjoy a cocktail as you relax by the campfire in the lean-to, or just sit back and read quietly as the waves gently lap against the rocks below. Walk the Island Nature Trails and listen to the birds. If you prefer an early morning exercise session they have a wonderful personal fitness instructor on call who does everything from very gentle bending and breathing exercise to vigorous aerobic sessions.
